New mothers and fathers are also coming online to shop, creating opportunities for wholesalers to thrive. Where before the baby care market was dominated by a small amount of retailers who would deal directly with manufacturers, this has now changed. The wholesale babycare market has now been re-born.

As a retailer that specialises in the baby care market we have also managed to make many in-roads through vertical integration. Where before we were selling only to businessses, we have now been able to expand online, selling B2C as well as B2B. Starting an online business can be compared to starting an offline business in many ways. The only difference is that in the offline world, you can buy a shop and people will come. In the online world that does not happen in a competitive market for products such as baby care supplies.

However, to buy or rent a shop is significantly more costly than it is to build an online presense. For somewhere in the region of $10K you can build a serious online presence, with natural search engine traffic and the ability for non-technical staff to change pricing through an admin function. This has allowed us to grow, without the limitations of having to set up a new website for each geographical area we choose to target. The power of the web is certainly still growing, and it creates opportunities for small businesses to truly compete with global brands.

We are at a time where the competitive landscape of the online world is still being shaped, and for me I have choosen to be part of the baby care market. You should choose a market and aim to dominate it through vertical integration into retailing directly to consumers. This allows you to diversify your business and have B2B and B2C customers. This is what I have done with wholesale baby care, why dont you do the same with your niche?
